This is my favorite Allman Brothers song! I first discovered it in college as well, but in the 90s!

My wife and I recently visited the Big House on a Sunday afternoon - what a great way to spend an afternoon. I found it interesting to look across the street, at the big church sitting over there, and wondering how many Sunday mornings the worshipers might have looked across the street at the remnants of the previous nights jam sessions.

Now those were two extremes if ever. No telling the sites they saw!

You and I have talked about music and writing during educational episodes at several local, now closed down bars. We have similar feelings about both subjects. I chose to ignore the obvious and trying songwriting anyway. Bought my first guitar at 50, learned to make three chords and went searching for the truth. I do have a few on paper but nothing, to quote John Hiatt, "Nothing Ronnie Milsap's gonna ever record. Very well done.

I tried to write a song ... I played one instrument in my life, the trumpet, and that way back when! I wish I could play the piano. Thank you.

Interesting background as to how Midnight Rider the hit song of the 70's developed. The Allman Brothers felt music in their souls and it came forth as great songs. It's the same as the memories that reside in your heart find their way into your stories via a line here and there.

Great story. Love all the history you pour into the making of this Midnight Rider and his music. Thank you.

One of my favorites. Check out "Revival" too. Chuck Leavell played on the album, Laid Back. I will get him to tell me his experience making the album and Midnight Rider.
